How to build an effective application process for candidates
With 1 in 5 candidates not completing an application that takes them 20 minutes or more to complete, employers need to reconsider their application processes if they want to improve their candidate experience.
This popular buzzword is actually one of the most important factors for attracting talent. A candidate’s feelings, whether good or bad, can influence their decision to apply to a company or accept a job offer.
Here’s how to improve candidate experience at each stage of the hiring process:
Declutter – Remove any obstacles that are unnecessary or repetitive and communicate with candidates by answering questions proactively. Hiring managers know what the next steps are and how long it takes to complete each stage and so this should be outlined to prospects.
Empower Candidates – Give job seekers the freedom to choose what type of interview they’d prefer or how they’d like to communicate. When candidates can choose their preferred interview format or communication method, it’s more likely they’ll complete the application and have a positive experience.
Feedback – Get feedback from candidates to see where improvements can be made. Recruiters can then optimise their process as necessary and evolve their methods as part of a continuous process.
Technology – Investing in end-to-end recruitment tools will keep the process moving and ensure a quality experience for everyone involved, including candidates. With the right tech in place and consistent communication whilst updating candidates about their status and supporting continued engagement, recruiters will be able to improve candidate experience and reduce hiring time.
Personal Touch – Offering a friendly, human touch during the recruiting process by being responsive to candidate questions, providing regular updates on progress to the candidates can make a big difference in presenting the company culture and core values.
Communication – Creating a clear communication strategy for all parties should be essential if recruiters want to stay on the same page when communicating with applicants. SMS, email and telephone are all great ways to stay in touch with applicants and update them throughout the hiring process.
